Sylvia Plath Homework

All the different emotions by the author Sylvia Plath are very truthful and she expresses herself in her own way. Most of the emotions include anger, sadness, excitement, nervous, impatient, sarcasm and lonely and most of these poems are about her expressing her feelings to other people and trying to blame it on someone else when they haven’t done anything wrong at all.

Ever since Sylvia Plath was a young person, unfortunately her father passed her away so maybe that is why all of her feelings come out with different emotions. The two poems which stand out her feelings are called, “A birthday present” and “The arrival of the bee box”.

A birthday present- All the feelings which are in this poem are excitement, nervous, impatient, rudeness, terrified, and ask too many questions. By asking too many questions she is over excited with fear, one of her quotations was, “What is this, behind this veil? Is it ugly? Is it beautiful? It is shimmering, has it breasts? Has it edges?” She is too impatient and she wants to know what the present is but doesn’t know if she wants it.

The arrival of the bee box- All the feelings which are in this poem are sarcasm, scared, sadness and confusion. By using sarcasm and using one of her quotations she says, “  I wonder how hungry they are, I wonder if they would forget me.” She feels sorry and asks for forgiveness so they won’t go hungry or thirsty. She is acting like she is a god and controls every thing that the she has created and what she owns.

In the other poems, it is like she is saying she wants to meet her dad because she wants to get to know him better and hasn’t seen him in a very long time, so she is trying to commit suicide and and spend more time with him so she can change her emotions and be happy, over the moon, overwhelmed and glad.

Lewis. You are making real progress! This makes good sense. Addresses the question properly and uses examples.

Next you need to make sure you simplify it a bit by giving a single example for every emotion. It’s fine to list them in your introduction, but then you need to explore every one you mention.

I suggest you narrow the emotions down to a smaller number (they’re all correct by the way) and then use an example that strongly explains each one.

    Nice going!

I hope things are going ok with your theme study presentation too. I feel positive about your performance on this one!
